- Exam 2 Curve
Your curved grade (on a 0-5 scale) is equal to 0.075*score-2.375, so for example, an 85 corresponds to a 4, which is just barely an A-. On this scale 4-5 is A, 3-4 is B, and so on. Less than .3 is a minus and more than .7 is a plus.(Posted December 3, 2007)

- I've typed up the remainder of the HW2 questions for those of you still without books. I asked the library to put it on hold but they don't have a copy. So you'll need to get a copy, or get access to a copy from another student, before next week. I won't continue to type up the whole problem set each week.

- I just sent a message to those of you in the google-group, as I've discovered that signing up for it may be more complex than simply clicking on the link. If you didn't get the message you will have to create a google groups account to actually join the group.

If you in fact didn't get this message, please let me know so we can fix the glitch. Also, if you register after today, please let me know so I can add you to the list.

- In class today I meant to talk more about the prerequisites, and some of you may have been misled by my survey. In short, there are no statistics prereqs for this class, nor is multivariate calculus required, though we will need some multivariate calculus, and we'll learn it when the time comes. I asked about your preexisting knowledge because I know this class attracts a wide variety of students with varying backgrounds, and knowing the specific makeup of this class will help me prepare better.
To repeat, you should be able to succeed in this class even if you have had no statistics classes before and don't know multivariate calculus.

- A google-group has been set up for you to be able to send messages to each other (and to me) about homework, review questions, and things relating to the class. I will not distribute any information using this group; so it is not required at all that you join it. it's purpose is to provide an online place where you can discuss the topics of this course. The web site is http://groups.google.com/group/um-theory-of-statistics. I think you can request to join from this page; otherwise I will be sending out invitations shortly.
(Posted September 5, 2007)
- There will be no lab section on Tuesday, September 4. However, the TA will be there to answer questions.
