STAT4102 Homework
There will be weekly homework assignments, due each Wednesday.Solutions are posted on Xiaoqiao's web site: http://www.stat.umn.edu/~xiaoqiao/.
- HW 10, due 5/7
2.99 (in 6th edition), then from the Chapter 16 (in 7th edition):
6, 7, 8abc (it refers to 8.17 which is 8.13 in the 6th edition), 15, 16, 21, 22
The link given in the text is broken, instead use the R command using Rweb at rweb.stat.umn.edu/Rweb/. - HW 9, due 4/30
From Chapter 15: 2, 4, 9, 10, 12 - HW8, due 4/9
From Chapter 10: 5, 77, 78, 87, 88, 94, 97a, 98 - HW7, due 4/2
From Chapter 10, problems based on three data sets:
10.7, 10.35, and find the p-value associated with the test in 10.7
10.9, 10.27, 10.39, and find the p-value associated with the test in 10.9
10.23, 10.30, and find the p-value associated with the test in 10.23 - HW6, due 3/26
9.27: use Thm. 9.2
9.90: We did this one in class using the pivot method. The book suggests that it can also be done by using estimates of the parameter anywhere the parameter shows up in the denominator, as on the top of p.456. This is actually the method some of you started on in class. What's the CI using this method? Is it different than the one found using the pivot method?
9.91: Use the book's method, not the pivot method.
9.92: You can use the following fact: for a random sample Y1 to Yn from an exponential distribution with mean beta, the distribution of Ymin is exponential with mean beta/n. See example 6.16 and problem 6.68 for details.
10.1
10.2 - HW5, due 3/12
From Chapter 9: 61, 62, 66, 67 (hint: it's a Beta), 72, 74, 75, 77abc, 80, 81 - HW4, due 2/20
Chapter 9: 5, 6, 8b, 11, 13, 20, 30, 34, 43, 57
You may find some of these quite difficult without hints. Email when you get stuck. - HW3, due 2/13
Answer the questions about this applet; then these problems:
Chapter 7: 19, 20ab
Chapter 8: 43, 51, 68, 71, 1, and 13 (for 13c, just compute both for n=10 and p=0.5 and 0.1 and compare). - HW 2, due 2/6.
This handout, plus Chapter 8: 35, 37, 44, 47, 62, 64 (sixth edition).
Link to applets used.
Note: These are all large-sample problems: no T-distribution yet.
CHANGE: THIS USED TO SAY CHAPTER 7, THAT WAS WRONG, BUT IF YOU'RE ALREADY DONE, THAT'S OK. - HW 1, due 1/30.
Two simulations, plus problems 23, 24, 38, 40 and 74 in Chapter 7 (sixth edition).
This homework references this link to the index page of applets for this chapter. And here are direct links to the two applets you are asked to use: basic, and sample size.
