using SPSS
using SPSS
Two resources are available for SPSS users:
- A SPSS primer that shows how to use SPSS to do the computations discussed in the book in a PDF file.
- Data files for all the examples and problems in the book that can be used with SPSS.
The data files for SPSS
The data files are available as plain text files on the data page, or as SPSS ".sav" files from this page. Here are the instructions for getting the ".sav" files:- Get alr3spss.zip, a compressed zip file containing a directory called "alr3spss" with all data files in SPSS format. Save the file in a convenient place on your hard disk; on a Windows machine, save it somewhere in your "My Documents" folder, or somewhere else that you have write permission.
- Unzip the directory; you can probably do this on Windows by simply double-clicking on the file. With System X on a Mac, the file unzips automatically.
To use the files in SPSS, either double-click on the file name, or start SPSS,
select Open, and then browse to the directory that you created.
SPSS Scripts
We have not prepared any scripts for SPSS.
