Statistics 3011 (Geyer) How to Read the Grades

The grade distributions are shown as stem and leaf plots like the one below. At the top there is a brief summary

N = 32   Median = 80
Quartiles = 69.5, 89
showing the number of students taking the test (N = 32) and the median and quartiles. The distribution follows
    4 : 9
    5 : 4
    5 : 8
    6 : 3
    6 : 5679
    7 : 033
    7 : 5569
    8 : 0034
    8 : 58888
    9 : 001333
    9 : 5
   10 : 0
To the left of the colon are the leading digits of the grades. To the right of the colon are the last digits of the grades. Each single digit on the right represents one grade.

The bottom line says there was one grade (because one number to the right of the colon) with leading digits 10 and last digit 0. That is, there was one 100. The next to bottom line says there was one 95.

The second to bottom line says there were six grades with leading digit 9 having last digits 0, 0, 1, 3, 3, 3. That is, there were two 90's, one 91, and three 93's.
