General
Teaching Policies
INCOMPLETES
are very rarely given. In particular,an incomplete will not be given
on the ground that you start to find the pressure of work too heavy.
If you do find the going too tough, consider dropping the course and
taking it again later; there is no disgrace in doing this. If you do
decide to drop, the sooner you do so the better as this will free you
up for work on your other courses and may increase the fee refund.
MAKEUPS
will be given only for documented reasons outside your control. Illness
(documented by a medical certificate) and a work assignment out of town
(documented by a letter from your supervisor) are examples of acceptable
reasons for a makeup. Social and vacation conflicts are not grounds
for a makeup.
ETHICS AND BEHAVIOR
Homeworks form the backbone of most of my teaching. You are permitted
and even encouraged to discuss the homework problems with others in
the class, but any work turned in (in particular homeworks and labs)
must be your own. In view of the large loading this element receives
in the assessment, conscientious, timely completion of ALL homeworks
is absolutely essential in my courses.
Homeworks are expected by due date. Late homework may on occasion be
accepted for good and unusual reasons, but the grade will be penalized
for late submission.
A sample solution to each homework will be posted at the end of every
week. Once the solution is posted, no more late homeworks will be accepted,
regardless of the circumstances.
PROBLEMS
If you are having some remediable difficulty (classroom too hot/cold;
homeworks turned back too soon/late; instructor's voice too loud/soft;
sample solutions too clear/obscure; presentation too concrete/abstract...),
please inform me right away.
